Tom Justin named Chairman of RICS Americas
New York, July 29, 2008 – RICS Americas, the New York City-based division of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), London, UK, the largest global organization for professionals in property, land, construction and related environmental issues; is pleased to announce that Tom Justin FRICS will serve as Chairman of RICS Americas for 2008-9. Mr. Justin, a member of RICS Americas Governing Council, takes over from Tony Grant FRICS, who will remain on the RICS Americas Board.
Thomas M. Justin, CRE, FRICS is Principal and Executive Vice President of The Weitzman Group, Inc., a prominent New York based consulting firm, specializing in market feasibility studies and investment counseling for financial institutions and developers. Additionally, Mr. Justin is a Director and former Vice Chairman of the Counselors of Real Estate and an Adjunct Professor for the Masters of Science in Real Estate program at New York University, where he has received the University’s “Excellence in Teaching” award.

I'm particularly excited about our increased interaction with other professional associations, leading me, in my first official act as Chairman, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with ASA and ASFMRA. Through this partnership, as well as others, we will continue to build on Tony's accomplishments toward more events, research and training and business development opportunities. Thanks to Tony, and the many volunteers who have supported him, my term is already off to a great start. I look forward to working with all of you to keep this momentum going."
Mr. Justin joined The Weitzman Group Inc in 1981, becoming a partner in 1984. Over his 30 year career he has advised various clients on the acquisition, disposition, and management of their real estate portfolios. His primary area of expertise is market analysis and development planning for commercial and residential properties. A pioneer in the field of real estate economics, he is a renowned specialist in quantifying the relationship between regional economic growth and the demand for real estate. Mr Justin has been responsible in the planning and development of major planned communities throughout the US. Notable projects include The Rockerfeller Center, Mall of America, The World Financial Center, Penn Yards, and Palisades Center, among others. In addition, Mr. Justin oversees the investment analyses of several major property portfolios managed by the firm's institutional clients.
Mr. Justin has a Master of Science degree in economics from West Virginia University. He is an active member of the Counselors of Real Estate and was recently chosen to be chairman of the Consulting Corps of the Counselors of Real Estate. This organization provides advice and counsel to not-for-profit organizations and local governments on issues pertaining to their real estate. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and has spoken several times at the annual meetings on the economic and real estate outlook for metropolitan areas in the United States. In the past, Mr. Justin has been a guest speaker on real estate market analysis at the Real Estate Institute of New York University.
