One of the world's most respected and high profile global ‘standards and membership' organizations
RICS - The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors - is a member association. The RICS membership includes many of the world's leading professionals in real estate, construction and related disciplines. Over 85,000 qualified professional in more than 140 countries hold the MRICS (Member), FRICS (Fellow) or TechRICS (Technical) designation, demonstrating the highest standards of education, professional training and ethical conduct. All RICS members join one unified, global body; their credential often serves as the "global passport" to clients and assignments around the world.
Launched in London in 1868, RICS now offers strategic advice around the world on the economics, valuation, law, technology, finance and management of the world's physical assets - from major construction projects to rural hunting estates to large investment portfolios. RICS members approach a surprisingly diverse range of land, property, construction and related environmental issues. Members help to set, maintain and regulate standards - as well as providing impartial advice to governments and policymakers.
With offices and members around the world, RICS has emerged as the leading global source and network on property-related issues. Sworn by charter to serve both its membership and the public interest, RICS is an important independent voice, providing advice to governments, the media and global organizations.
Here in the Americas, surveying has a rich history. Famous surveyors including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson set forth the boundaries, built the early buildings and established the property practices on which much of the Americas is based. RICS now has chapters and meaningful memberships in most important cities across the US, Canada and Caribbean, making RICS Americas an important and fast-growing part of RICS.
